The Roosevelt School District Welcomes New Principal To the Team
Roosevelt High School Hires Mr. Matthew Swinson as New Principal

As the Roosevelt School District gears up for an incredible academic year, some new faces can also be expected, including Roosevelt High School's incoming principal, Matthew Swinson. Mr. Swinson assumed his role as the high school's principal on August 31, 2021. Mr. Swinson brings years of experience and a fresh perspective to the high school principal's position. He will be a tremendous asset as the District continues to provide its students with resources and role models that will best prepare them for their future endeavors.

"Mr. Swinson is a credit to his profession, and we are extremely honored to have him join the Roosevelt family," said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Deborah L. Wortham. "The Roosevelt School District has always worked to identify talented individuals to create a network of education professionals that will support our students at every step of the educational process. I am confident that Mr. Swinson will add greatly to this mission."

Before becoming Roosevelt High School's new principal, Mr. Swinson worked eight years as a middle school ELA, social studies, science, and Title I math summer school teacher. Mr. Swinson's extensive resume includes tenures as a K-6 assistant principal at Eastern Suffolk BOCES, Amityville Memorial High School assistant principal at Weber Middle School in Port Washington. Most recently, Mr. Swinson served as assistant principal at Bay Shore Middle School. In each of these positions, Mr. Swinson worked to build connections with his students, their families, and his colleagues to create an environment in which exceptional learning could occur every day. Mr. Swinson's attention to detail and the care he takes to ensure the success of all students aligns with the District's overarching mission of educating the whole child so that they are prepared to take on each new chapter in their lives confidently.

"I am humbled to be joining a team of education professionals whose daily work has helped guide students to success on many levels," said Mr. Swinson. "I look forward to working with the teachers of Roosevelt High School and with Superintendent Dr. Wortham to build upon the high school's academic offerings so that our students feel supported and challenged to become the most well-rounded individuals they can be."
