• On Thursday, June 20, 2013 local officials Supervisor Kate Murray and Councilwoman Dorothy Goosby recognized our young ornithologists for their outstanding work.   Our 4th and 5th grade students participated in a contest to help biologists Kerri Dikun save endangered water birds on Long Island.  The contest required students to conduct research on endangered water birds on Long Island and create a poster to increase awareness of the birds that nest and reside on our Long Island beaches.   A total of six students from Ulysses Byas and Washington Rose schools were selected as winners.

The young ornithologists were acknowledged at a press conference where their art work was showcased.  Channel 12 news, Radio Station WCBS880 as well as other local media were in attendance.  The students’ posters will be displayed throughout the summer at Lido Beach. Please be sure to congratulate our winners and enjoy the attached photos.
